A year in the life... | Print |

2009 / 2010
During the year, we spent an exhilarating adventure week at Kilvrough in South Wales, explored houses through the ages at the Chiltern Open Air Museum, learnt to cook at Le Manoir aux Quat Saisons, watched red kites in their Aston Rowant habitat, discovered different animals and their environments at the Oxford Natural History Museum and Farmer Gow’s, and made seasonal decorations at the Harcourt Abroretum.

A ‘Round The World Day’ was held initiated by our Pupil Council.  Each class represented a different country, and we enjoyed learning about each country, dressing-up, and trying out their traditions, as well as tasting traditional food cooked by ourselves with our teachers.

Activities closer to home have included various sports events – a swimming gala, partnership rounders, rugby and hockey, and our older children have enjoyed visits from sports specialists in their multi sports activity sessions.  Our new garden was put to good use with many different vegetables grown and eagerly munched.  We also enjoyed putting our new outdoors classroom to use in a variety of different ways including a story cave and a museum for Roman artefacts.

Visits from a marathon runner, a mountaineer, the commodore of the QE2, a night nurse, narrow boat artist, policeman, as well as a watch of firemen and their fire engine have helped us learn about some different occupations and their challenges.

Highlights of the year included our Christingle Service, the Maypole Dancing and our Outdoors Learning Week.  In addition to participating in the Wheatley Partnership schools music festival performing ‘Ocean Commotion’, the Garsington Opera project and the Infant Music Festival at Sandhills.
